Welcome to Off-Grid Appliances: Efficient and DC-Direct Options
Quote from mikekru on 09/25/2026, 6:45 pmWelcome to Off-Grid Appliances!
This board is for the equipment that runs an off-grid home: efficient appliances, DC-direct gear, water heating, heating and cooling, refrigeration and cooking.
Ask about wattage, sizing and what to check before you buy, and share what you have installed. For a look at one DC-powered option, see our page on the 48V DC hydronic water heater and chiller, which we have not yet tested ourselves.

The rated wattage on a label is not always what an appliance draws. Running watts, startup surge and standby draw can all differ. If you have a plug-in watt meter, post the appliance, what you measured and the conditions, and say clearly that the number is your own reading.
You can put your figures into our Battery Bank Runtime Calculator to see how long a battery bank would carry them. Which appliance surprised you most?
